Every year we choose a number of causes for pro bono work. As it happens, every year one of those causes is unchanged: the Ride for Missing Children. It started as a 43-person bike ride from Albany to Utica to raise awareness for abducted children, inspired by a local girl’s tragedy. It’s now an annual event with over 400 riders making their way through Central New York with police escort, passing through towns and stopping at schools to spread the word. My father, the founder of our agency, was on the committee that conceived the original Ride, and I have been a rider 4 times. Other members of our agency have also been riders many times over the years, and we have always provided our services to promote the cause: raising awareness and working to return missing children to their families. Visit Central New York this Friday and you will be stunned by the commitment of this small community. We always are.
Watch below as Bernie Freytag (who designed the original logo for the Ride) and Katie Ullman talk about their experiences in participating and helping to promote this amazing event.

As a first time rider I am very excited about the ride this year. It was a great time going out on the training rides and meeting so many new people, knowing that no one was out to “Win a race” but we were all there for one common goal and that is to keep our children safe and to help bring families back together. This is the first of many rides I will participate in. Thank you for all the work and effort you put into helping to organize such a wonderful cause.

Thanks for the comment Amy and have an amazing day tomorrow. I remember every ride vividly but the first one definitely stands out. Enjoy the day.

Joe,
We rode our first Ride together. Now some 13 or 14 Rides later, I’m still plugging along. It’s time for your come back!
Let’s get the band back together for one more show next year!

I have been a rider in the Ride For Missing Children for 9 years now and it is gratifying to see how the level of support in the community has increased over the years. Now when you say “The Ride for Missing Children” people know what you are talking about. Of course, as the awareness increases, it makes raising money for posters so much easier, which helps us achieve our one common goal – to make our children safer, one child at a time.
